What Makes You Special?

maxresdefaultWhat’s the one thing you want to find in your life? It’s the same thing everyone wants to find. What makes you different from everyone else? What makes you unique? Why do you matter? With so many other people in the world it’s hard to make your mark and feel special because everyone else is trying to do the same thing. And with over seven billion people in the world, a great deal of options that would make you special are being taken by other people first.

So what do you do?

Start with what you like. Chances are if you like something you’ll be more driven to find your niche, your area of expertise, the thing that makes you special. If you like something then you are motivated to do it, so you put more effort in, you have better and more creative ideas, and you don’t give up on it. That’s what you need. With so many other people looking for their own purpose in life you need to be driven to find something that’s uniquely yours.

Take action.

You have lots of good ideas. You even have a few great ideas. But how many of those ideas do you take action on. If you have an idea for something that can make you special, do it.

But what if that idea is unreasonable or out of my league? Stop. That line of thinking is holding you back. There is always a way to do something if you really want to. You hear stories about it all the time on the news. About how so-an-so made a difference by doing this amazing thing. Why is that person any different from you? The only difference between a person who makes the news and makes a difference and you is that they find a way to make their idea a reality.

What makes you special can be anything.

The size or impact of what makes you special means nothing. Maybe you are incredibly nice and helpful and friendly and you cheer people up just by being around them. Or maybe you make world changing scientific breakthroughs every day because of some unique abilities or knowledge. Neither one of these people is any less special than the other. The only difference is why they are perceived as special. The nice person brightens peoples moods which can be life altering on a smaller scale. The person making breakthroughs can be life altering on a larger scale perhaps but they cannot be compared because they are special for different reasons.

Everyone has something that makes them unique.

You just have to find it. It could be world changing or it could be something small that helps someone get through the day. What you do may not be unique on the scale of seven billion people, but the way you do it is uniquely you. For example, if I wanted to cheer someone up, my thought is to get rid of the bad thing that’s bothering them or make it seem insignificant. But maybe that’s not the way you would do it. Maybe you would buy them an ice cream cone and spoil them with kindness.

Change your view of special.

When we think of standing out and being special we think of doing something nobody has done before, or doing some that earns us favor and adoration. And then when we don’t achieve those things we get disappointed. But it is everything you do that makes you special. You cheered that little girl up who dropped her ice cream cone, you said hello to the lady across the street who was feeling lonely, you called your mom and dad, you made your friend laugh when they were having a bad day. You are what makes you special. It is everything you are and everything you do. Maybe the lonely lady was feeling depressed because she was alone and you gave her hope, maybe your friend went home and did something that made their life better they wouldn’t have done if they were still upset. You have no idea what your actions do to the rest of the world or the people you come across. You make a ripple across the world that is unique to you and only you.

You are special and no one can take that away from you.

Positive Thinking: Lead A Happier Life

Everyone wants a better life, am I right? I know I do. And Fortunately, there are lots of things that make life better. There are obvious ones that everyone wants which are to have more money, to have a better job and to marry the person of your dreams. And then there are the less obvious ones like getting a massage for your aching back after a hard day, or getting that irritating little rock out of your shoe (how do they keep getting in there?).

I’m going to focus on one of the less obvious things, because let’s be serious I’m not a miracle worker. Yet.

For me, the most important thing you can do to make your life positive is something anyone can do. Random acts of kindness. Simple right? This is something that really helped me out in my own life.

Something I’ve learned over the years is that nobody cares more about your own problems than you do. And that’s fair, why should they? Everyone else has their own problems to worry about. By now we’ve all gotten used to it, we deal with it ourselves. Then, one day, we’re having just a downright awful horrible day. We slept in, we were late for work, spilled coffee on ourselves, the whole 9 yards. And then, in the middle of our personal storm of misery and frustration something unexpected happens.

Someone nice comes along.

They offer to buy you a new coffee, help you with one of the many things you’ve been struggling with. Whatever. Isn’t that just the best feeling ever? That one nice thing drags me right out of the heart of the storm and I see a little ray of sunshine. It boosts my entire day back up.

Positivity breeds positivity. 

If you do nice things for other people, other people do nice things back for you. It’s that simple. If you smile at everyone, everyone will smile back at you. And this works every time. It really just comes down to one thing.

People want to feel like they’re cared about.

So show them you care. If you take the time to perform random acts of kindness each and every day it will come back at you in a big way. Many people just can’t be bothered. But how hard is it really to hold the door for someone with their hands full? It’s not. But it could mean all the difference to that person. And they’ll remember that even if you don’t.

Diet: What You Need To Know

Dieting. Something we can all relate to. We’ve all felt the pull of a diet before, whether it’s for that summer vacation, for your own self esteem, or just keeping your body in check after caving to your cravings. Everyone wants to diet. And not only that, everyone seems to have an answer for a diet. Companies make millions of dollars  off of diet and exercise plans every year because we all want to look skinny and attractive. They prey on that. Everyone has a quick fix. Lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks. Eat our food and you’ll lose weight fast.

This is not a solution.

How many times have you gone on a diet and a few weeks after you stop you’re right back to where you started? You might have even added a few extra pounds. That’s because diets don’t work. Sure, maybe you lost a few pounds, you may have even lost as much as they said you would. And that’s great. But if the weight just comes back again, it didn’t really help you did it. So why bother?

Diets help you reach a certain weight but they don’t help you maintain it. They never will. Do you know why? It’s because they can’t keep making money off people on diet plans if the people learn how to maintain their goal weight on their own. So they don’t tell you. They give you a quick fix to make you happy in the short-term. But I don’t like that. I want you to be happy in the long-term. So if you want to lose weight and keep that sexy new body you earn, here’s what you need to do.

You need to change your lifestyle.

You can’t make a temporary change and expect the effects to be permanent. Permanent effects come from permanent change. If I eat ice cream every day, and then go on a diet to lose weight, when I come off that diet I’m going to go back to eating ice cream everyday because that’s what I do. So instead of going on a diet, you need to stop eating ice cream every day. Make sense? This is the hard part. This is why so many people struggle with losing weight. You have to change your bad behaviors into good ones and then make them into habits.

Personally, I used to love to snack on triscuits among other things. I’d eat them every day after work by the handful. Lots of calories, lots of carbs and they never curbed my hunger. So I stopped buying triscuits and instead, I bought flavored rice crackers. And juice, I absolutely loved Fruitopia and Simply Apple. I could drink a few glasses a day. But take a moment and look at the calories in that juice you have. It’s somewhere around 240 calories per cup. Have a few cups throughout the day and that’s 1000 calories in juice alone! That’s half a days calories without eating anything at all. So I stopped drinking juice and started drinking water instead. Those changes worked for me. But they might not work for you. This is the first step you need to take.

Identify your problem areas.

Once you know where your problem areas are then you need to do some trial and error work. You need to find something healthier that curbs your cravings to replace those problem areas. You don’t have to make a giant leap either. Take baby steps. Little by little whittle down your problem areas until there are almost none left. You can go all the way if you want, or you can just eliminate a few. The more changes you make the bigger the difference you will notice in yourself. And lets be clear, you will not notice right away. The idea of weight just falling off (especially in a healthy manner) is ludicrous. It takes time. So be patient. Everything worthwhile takes time.

For other people with stronger willpower, you may be able to outright cut off your problem foods without making a change to a healthier product first. This takes more discipline and is harder to maintain though so I don’t recommend this.

Now for the most important point. This is where the motivation comes in. You have to want to do this. You have to because this is going to be very hard. Making a lifestyle change is altering your everyday way of life. But that’s what you have to do if you want permanent results, you need to make permanent change. So find your motivation, identify your problem areas and get started! Remember the hardest part is getting started. Let this be your kick start. Health: Boost Your Mornings

Mornings are tough. I myself am not a morning person, and for a long time I used to struggle with them. You wake up cranky and unsociable, you don’t have any energy and that’s if you can summon the willpower to make it out of bed before hitting the snooze button for the third time. And when you finally do get up you’re desperate for you morning coffee to help cross that seemingly endless stretch of time until you’re actually awake.

Lucky for you there are some ways to accelerate your mornings!

After a long (and hopefully good) nights sleep your body becomes dehydrated. You could drink a liter of water before bed, it wouldn’t matter. That’s because your body needs fluids to operate. So needless to say, if your body needs fluids to operate, dehydration is not a good thing. Here’s why. Mild dehydration (like the dehydration you feel after waking up in the morning) can cause a number of unpleasant feelings such as: sleepiness or tiredness, headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, constipation, dry skin, and dry sticky mouth. That sounds pretty awful doesn’t it? Fortunately there’s a really easy fix for this.

Drink a glass of water every morning.

Aside from the fact that your body needs water to survive, just alleviating all these symptoms from your morning makes a world of difference. You don’t need to chug a bottle of water either. Just have a glass. One glass. That’s all it takes to rehydrate your body. If you want to have more, great, more power to you.

Naturally there are people who don’t like water. I used to hate water. I started off adding a squirt of flavoring from Mio or crystal light to make it taste better. To be honest, you might just have to suck it up for awhile. But now I love the taste of water, so trust me it gets easier.

But if you absolutely can’t bring yourself to drink water, there’s another morning alternative for you. And it’s healthy too!

Apples.

Apples have the same waking effect on the body as caffeine. When your body is digesting the natural glucose in apples, it helps to wake you up. It is surprisingly effective and it comes without the mood swings and the crash that eventually comes with having caffeine. Apples get all the hype but any healthy snack will do the trick. Don’t believe me? Give it a shot.

Motivation: Starting with the Basics

maxresdefaultThis might seem obvious to some people but motivation doesn’t just pop out of thin air. Some people think that maybe if they just jump into something the motivation will come. And maybe that’s true sometimes. But we everyday people can’t just cross our fingers and hope.

The truth is motivation starts with you.

That’s right. Nobody else is going to find it for you. You might think some people do, but in the end it was you who decided to change your mindset. You have to want to be motivated.

Let me say that again. You have to want to be motivated.

There’s no big secret that successful people have to motivate themselves. You just have to want it. That’s because when you want it your perspective on things change. Suddenly you want to make that extra effort, you want to spend more time on it. The more you want that motivation the more you direct your focus on that thing your motivating yourself for. You make yourself into a driving force that accomplishes what you set out to accomplish. But what if you don’t want it?

If you don’t want to find motivation then you fall into a category that most other people do as well. That’s the group that procrastinates doing things, the group that can’t be bothered. If you don’t want motivation to do something then you don’t really want that something do you? Or at least you don’t want something associated with that thing. This is a much harder thing to overcome. But again, it all comes back to you.

Some people have already hit the milestone. They want to be motivated but they’re not at the point where they’ve become their own driving force. That’s okay. You’ve already made that crucial first step. Now it’s all about validating that motivation to yourself. That part is easy. Why did you want to motivate yourself to do this behavior in the first place? Maybe you were trying to motivate yourself to go to the gym. Ask yourself why. To get skinny? To be in better shape? Want to be the next Arnold Schwarzenegger?

The question you need to ask yourself is why did I want to motivate myself in the first place? That’s your driving force. Right there. Hold onto that, feed on it. Do all this and you are well on your way to motivation.
